Landscape The pianos lid is littered with objects, the tallest being furthest from the keyboard, the smallest nearest. The in betweens as you see fit. [NOTE: masses of cloth are ideal for this set-up H.W.] A famous score is printed up whereby each A4 sheet of manuscript is blown up to A3 size. This huge score (which should be 20-30 pages depending on the size of your piano a baby grand obviously will be able to hold a smaller amount of objects and thus a smaller score) is laid over the objects and pushed, shaped, ripped, folded, scrunched and weighted until it resembles a relief landscape of hills, valleys, plateaus, craters and the like. The score should be highest at the back, so that it is not completely obscured by the peaks in front of it e.g.
The pianist plays the score in whatever way they see fit, following paths through the landscape, noting where notes are lost, or lines combine. Playing fragments of the score that are wholly seen. The pianist should try not to move their head too much, craning it to see the next bit of score is not the point. The pianist is otherwise free to explore this landscape in whatever way they see fit.
