Cracking the head of the elephant - Childheaded household Video
Childheaded household is part of the film 'Cracking the head of the elephant'.
Young people have something to say when it comes to an important issue like HIV/aids.
The basic knowledge on how to prevent it is there, no doubt, but why is it so hard for young people to stay away from aids? One basic reason is the absence of parents. An increasing number of children grow up in a situation where one or both parents died of aids. The impact on the lives of young people is phenomenal. One of the biggest problems is the fact that there are no people around them to convey the morals of daily life.
With the spread of the aids epidemic more and more children are faced with the difficult task of raising their siblings, but it does not end there. In many cases they have to take care of their sickening parents. This shift in responsibility cuts out a lot of children from exploring their youth. It is time to listen to what they have to say. Alex Netshapasha and Tondani Muloiwa interviewed young people in Venda, South Africa.
