GUIDING LIGHT'S FIRST FAMILY: THE BAUERS Video

For over 60 of its 72 years, the Bauer family had driven many a story on THE GUIDING LIGHT. Led by Frederick "Papa" Bauer, the family became the core center of GL beginning in 1947. Over the next six decades, we saw generations of Bauers dominate storylines. From Papa's son Bill and his headstrong wife Bertha (Bert) through his great-grandson (and namesake) Frederick (Rick), the Bauers were the family we always yearned to be part of. Whether one was a Bauer by birth (Bill, Meta, Trudy, Ed, Mike, Hillary, Hope, Rick, Michelle, Lee Ann, Jude, Alan-Michael), by marriage (Bert, Leslie, Julie, Maureen, Holly, Rita, Meredith, Mel, Charlotte), or marry into the family (Alan Spaulding, Danny Santos, Joe Roberts, Bruce Banning, Ted White) or were semi-related (Kathy Roberts/Meta's stepdaughter, Kelly Nelson/Ed's godson, Blake Thorpe/Ed's stepdaughter), the Bauers were the most revered family in soap opera history. They have paved for the other great soap families who came later.

mthivier: Nice job. I couldn't figure out why you'd had Helen Wagner, but then I remembered she played Trudy Bauer on GL in the '50s.

Soapking1965: Ms. Wagner played Trudy, Bert's sister-in-law in 1952-53. In case you ask, Victoria Wyndham (ex-Rachel, ANOTHER WORLD) played Charlotte Waring, who married Mike in the late '60s.

mthivier: I knew that Victoria had played Charlotte, even though it was a little before my time. I began watching as a kid when nutcase Kit Vested tried to kill Sara McEntire in the early '70s, and I began a full-fledged fan of GL when Rita came on in '75.
