APD following new Taser protocol Video
APD is following a new protocol for shooting tasers at suspects. the department is following new recommendations from a taser company. valerie castro is here with what a- p-d says about the new protocol. valerie? taser international has issued a warning that suspects should not be shot in the chest. now a-p-d is passing that information along to its officers. taser international -- which issues tasers to law enforcement -- issued the new protocol in hopes of helping officers avoid controversy when using the weapon. the company warns that a shock to the chest could put the suspect at a low risk for heart complications. apd says it's giving the information to its officers today to put into practice, whenever possible. "at first we put out the protocol saying we've been advised of this if possible you are advised this but it may not be practical and that's where it takes time to evaluate." instead of hitting a suspect in the chest, officers will now be asked to aim at other areas like the shoulders, abdomen, legs or back. apd says it's pretty easy to be accurate with a taser when the target is close, but when they're far away or moving around, it's a different story.
