oneworldoneway: Why do Russian films have to be so depressing.
SouthUkraine: Why did she have to shoot him?!!! This shows what the revolution did to the russian people. It took away the God given gift of love, and put communism ideals as number 1 in its place.. And for what was all that worth.?Most likely after the war, she worked in a factory and sacrifised her body and soul for her country. and when she became old. her country didnt need her anymore.. And so she sat out her days in her 1 room kvartira(appartment) rotting in regret and thinking what was the point....
davidperi: Love turns to hate, then turns to anger and back again to love...and then for the sake of ideological truth he gets shot and dies...too bad. Thanks for posting this.
eddieedgar: Birubir, thanks so much. I sat transfixed during the ending. Yes, as South Unkraine said, the makers of the film unwittingly condemned what the revolution did to the Russian people.
Toracube: Great film. I was glued to it. Stunning location work!! Faved, 5'd and shared.
ivsny: This epic genius absolutely truly GENIUS masterpiece should be among greatest movies ever maid!!!
ivsny: Depressing? Maybe. But unfortunately the 20th century was extremely brutal, bloody, unfaire and depressing in russian history.
oneworldoneway: I know it was. I just wish I could find some more non-depressing Russian films that are still something that even children could watch.
PhotonDrive: Fantastic climax! Until that point we don't know why the strange title? Stunning photography! Thanks BiruBir for another great one! She was true to her duty - in spite of Love! Plenty of "Prisoners of Love" on both sides during that period - see "A Slave of Love" for a big contrast! Certainly Kolchak & his foreign mercinaries would have been worse for Russia - too bad the German Socialist revolution failed, might have been spared Hitler (& Stalin too!).
ivsny: I guess you are right...But great Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, even Chekov did not created that many funny love stories. Maybe there is something abount Russian people personality.
oneworldoneway: Well even humor is kind of like that in Slavic culture. Its like, "And this and happened and then they died!" Lol Even though I don't understand I love them.
onefern: Great film! A sweeping romance, way it is done is really ahead of its time (1956)
groznyyy: Thank you. Great, great movie. Thank you very much.
elfiya: Have you forgotten about the boat in the horizon? How do you think what will officers do with a red sniper? I am sure she was killed by White Guardians after they landed.
elfiya: Well a very funny Russian comedy for you (with Eng. subs)
