MLA feedbackTV - Ep6 Where the bloody hell are ewes? Video

Increasing demand for lamb among consumers coupled with high prices has sheep producers changing the dynamic of their enterprise. With more ewes, especially Merino ewes, joined to terminal sires and the resulting progeny sold for slaughter the number of ewes retained for breeding is rapidly decreasing. The challenge the industry now faces is to meet the demand for lamb while maintaining the national maternal flock. In response the Sheep CRC has developed two production calculators to improve the lifetime management of the ewe to increase production and sustainability. These tools along with Australian sheep breeding values (ASBVs) will allow producers to identify the most productive ewes and how many of these to join to terminal sires.
