Lower School Students Go On Mining Adventure—at School! Video

Second through fifth grade students recently went on a mining adventure at school! Diamond Dels Mining Adventure is the most popular educational mining program in the Southeast, designed to provide an experience that will inspire interest in geology and earth science.
The program focuses on educating children about mineral identification and classification through hands-on experiences. First, students viewed a 20-minute video that explained what gem mining is all about, reviewing each mineral they would find, and preparing them for their adventure. Next, they entered the mobile gem mine where they were greeted by flumes filled with flowing water and their very own mining box containing gems and minerals concealed in Brazilian mining ore. The students then washed the ore from the boxes revealing the hidden treasure. All the while, a mining expert was aboard helping students find dozens of minerals they could take home.
