~*~PLEASE COMMENT!~*~ ABSOLUTE MUST SEE! What a day! KCS F units, SOO Line, etc.!

October 2nd, 2009.

We start off in Bensenville, IL. About an hour after we arrived, the KCS business special passed through, headed east. Those ABA F units sure look good. Powering the train are the two FP9's, 1 and 3, sandwiching 2, the B unit. This was a special run, as the KCS was exploring the route for possible service from Kansas City to Chicago.

When the business train stopped in Bensenville, we headed over to Franklin Park. As soon as we arrived, we saw a headlight approaching out of Bensenville Yard. CP GP38-2 4524 is in charge of a transfer.

Shortly after the transfer, Metra MP36PH-3S led an outbound train into the station at Franklin Park.

Not much later, Metra MP36PH-3S 425 pushed an inbound train east, out of the station at Franklin Park.

A CN transfer out of Bensenville Yard heads east through Franklin Park, powered by CN GP40-2LW 9427 and Illinois Central GP40 3120.

Next up: The main attraction! The KCS F units head east through Franklin Park, under a neat sky. The rain was picking up in intensity. It really brought out the good looking Southern Belle colors. Nice P5 as well!

After the business train rolled through Franklin Park, we headed a little further to River Road. The first train to pass was an inbound Metra train, pushed by Metra MP36PH-3S 419.

The next to pass was a westbound CP manifest. Westbound CP freight trains like to elude me when I'm on the Elgin Sub. I've gone eight hours without seeing one and it only took 20 minutes to see one here. Amazing how that works. Here, we have a pair of CP ES44AC's, 8882 and 8796 slowly rolling through town.

I wasn't expecting a CN train, but here we have a CN manifest heading west to the CN Waukesha Sub connector, not far from here at all. CN ES44DC 2265 is in charge, followed by CN 5266, a nice SD40-2W.

The KCS business train waits patiently in the background, for this outbound Metra train to pass by, which is powered by Metra MP36PH-3S 424.

Here it comes! After heading east to Tower A5 in Chicago, the KCS business special is on the move, headed west, approaching downtown Franklin Park. On a cold and wet day, seeing this really warmed things up! Definitely worth it.

With the crew running out of time, the KCS business special backs into Bensenville Yard. Farewell!

While heading out of town, preparing myself for rush hour traffic in the rain, we heard a horn from the east. We headed back to the tracks and saw the headlight approaching. This was a really nice way to end the day! With the rain really starting to come down, SOO Line GP38-2 4423 leads the Spaulding Patrol train west through Bensenville. I found a nice, big tree to stand under. SOO Line caboose 98 trails at the rear. I've never seen such a clean SOO caboose in my life.

Thank you very much for watching! I hope that everyone enjoys.

NicTrain35: Thanks, Matt! Also, thanks for the info on the 4524.
NicTrain35: Thanks, Eric!
NicTrain35: Nice! Where is the Galt Sub located?
Trainbrain1949: KCS F units are quite a sight here!!
NicTrain35: Yep, they certainly are!
hawkeyetherailfan: Awesome catches!
dutchtrainmanserie22: Awesome video 5*****
CQDX018: My uncle was on the F units.
gumball469: Lucky...
yurysausage: oh, way up here in toronto the cp galt subdivion
NicTrain35: Yep, hopefully they make another trip here soon!
NicTrain35: Cool. Must have been a fun ride!
NicTrain35: Thanks, Guido!
NicTrain35: Thanks, Ben!
NicTrain35: Pretty busy line?
yurysausage: from the research ive done and how ive experienced it you can go hours without seeing anything then you could get 5 trains in an hour or less its a double track mainline with siding thats being taken up by storage but more of the cars are on the siding are being away cause business is pickin up there intermodal cars
NicTrain35: Kind of sounds like the Chillicothe Sub. The Chilli Sub can sometimes be a graveyard, then it can immediately start hopping with trains. I think the line has taken a hit from the economy, but there have been definite signs of the economy improving, sooo, we'll just have to wait and see.
yurysausage: tru tru , for instance the bala sub in central ontario is a heavy trafficked main single track and its has lost about 4-5 trains becuase of the economy and same thing with the chilicothe sub , you search up the galt sub and bala you will be amazed to see what you will find
incidious13: Absolutely fantastic!!!
NicTrain35: Thanks a lot!
sonic05gt: Love the sound of the Soo at the end bumping the throttle...
vettebecker: Love F units, Nice video.
jarhead6353: I am a foreman at Bensenville yard, and was working that day . The train is KCS 1, and it was carrying executives of CP, Soo Line, and KCS. Soo Line and KCS are in serious negotiation over an exchange of trackage rights, and there has been the odd scuttlebutt of a merger. The Old Heads I was working with that day used to work on those type of units, and said you climbed up the ladder and basically fell into the crew cab. Beautiful engines no doubt. Great job.
jarhead6353: CP Elgin Sub, East 2 Main. Mainly Metra, but the Spaulding Patrol, A Soo industrial switcher heads out M-F. The Sub is MUCH busier east of CP Tower B-17 at Bensenville.
UnionPacificBNSF: KCS runs trains from Shreveport to Houston on UP's Lufkin Sub aka The Rabbitt since the Macoroni line reopened in June we get a couple of KCS trains now usually 1 grain and 1 manifest.
