recryl: That was a surprising difference in bootup time! The iMac didn't even display the initial gray logo untill the Mini was done booting - are you sure that is representative? Could it be a one-time event, or is it really like that generally?

sordow: does it in general because it such a big machine which means a bigger kernel

sordow: they are both running Snow Leopard

niaaaarf: No. Kernel has always the same size in OS X (in the same version of the OS). Every Mac should boot in 20-25 seconds, and "big machine - bigger kernel" just does not exist. Try to boot in verbose mode to see why it takes so long to boot.

sordow: U can't change how fast the apple logo appears it is what it is verbose mode is just another way of booting but doesn't do anythig to change boot time

Vilseinaturen: Try reset the PRAM. (Cmd + Opt + P + R, hold on boot) Should do the trick from what i've heard

Vilseinaturen: No problem. I saw another video with a new iMac that also had this unusually long boot time and someone said that it might help with a PRAM reset and obviously it helps. And then I saw your video and i thought that maybe this could help you too. Maybe it's a usual problem with the new iMacs. I'm going to try this with my "old" iMac 24" and see if I can reduce the boot time (45 sec at the moment). I think you should make another boot time comparasion video, if it's faster now. It would be nice.

Vilseinaturen: I just did a PRAM reset myself nad it helped me too. My boot time (from start to dashboard and mail fully loaded) is now 50 instead of 65 sec. Hopefully Snow Leopard will reduce my boot time even more when i get it.
