Isolation Video

As a disabled man who uses a wheelchair for mobility, it is difficult to move through society, let alone a crowd. I'm constantly overwhelmed with emptiness, but I refuse to let the weariness deform my soul as the ugly masked phantom. Now, twenty-six years since my disability, I've endured many hardships and blatant discrimination.

The indifference by the ambulatory has left me stunned, not depressed. I cannot pick one event that accurately depicts my deep and delirious degradation. So far, I have managed to keep creeping suicide away from the front tires of my wheelchair. If the multitudes only realized my humanity instead of prejudging my physical appearance, I could better accept this strange existence.

I like to remind those who listen that when it comes to disability-- "As you are, I once was. As I am, someday, you may become."

As far as being gay is concerned, I have never understood, "Pride," as a way to explain my sexuality.

Growing up in an era before tolerance, acceptance and legality, I cringed when "fags" were harassed. I shuttered in my closet while looking at the ceiling contemplating imagery of hanging. But, It doesn't matter anymore, though. I am what I am and I'm a disabled gay man who is shunned by the ambulatory whether gay or straight!

Pride-- Well that's a matter of self awareness I've been denied. I'm a quadriplegic with a sexuality termed as BENT-- Gay and disabled. I hold no faith that me and my obscure peers will ever be accepted. But our voices won't be silenced.
