Myths of the Council of Nicaea, part two (b) Video
This is part two (a) of my short series addressing some of the modern myths surrounding the First Ecumenical Council held in Nicaea in AD 325. The myths I address here are ones that are propagated by groups like the Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons, individuals such as Dan Brown and Elaine Pagels, and media such as the book The DaVinci Code and Zeitgeist, The Movie.
The myths I address in this video are:
1. Constantine the Great was a pagan when he convoked and attended the Council of Nicaea.
2. The Arians were the true Christians, the "Orthodox" were the heretics.
3. The Council of Nicaea invented the Divinity of Christ.
I'll have the script for this video up on my blog some time in the near future for those desiring to read it and get references for further reading.

TheRedBlueBlues: 5 STARS - GREAT job
Christisms: Very good and interesting information. I have been reading a few of the ideas of Origen and I remember that the spiritual being of Logos was an extension of the immaterial being of God as understood by John 1:1 (or Logos was the bridge of God being both the same nature of God and of man).
Zdrazy: Interesting stuff.
davidpwithun: Thanks a lot. :)
davidpwithun: Very interesting. Origen is definitely one of the most interesting (if not always theologically orthodox) of the early Christian authors.
davidpwithun: Thanks much.
orthodox4eva: It was good hearing a different bunch of ways of defining the trinity from all of those early church fathers. Both the clip were good, thanks for the vids. :D
gmbrannan: I think you need to change the batteries in your smoke detector. Check out 4:25. There is a chirp in the background. Also at 5:03.
davidpwithun: haha... yeah... I actually had to record it twice because of that ... the first one had like a dozen chirps in it ... Thanks :)
davidpwithun: Thanks for the comments! I really appreciate the encouragement.
gmbrannan: I thought it was mine until I went back to rewatch a certain part. :) YW.
SittingBullswar: You need to sound a bit more scholarly. Jesus did not create the world. Jesus was born and had brothers and sisters. Jesus was born and died. Who can kill the creator. Constantine religion. Three gods are three gods not one god. YOu are irational not those who question three in one. It does not make sense.
SittingBullswar: They copied the Roman pagan religion of many gods, saints and a mother of God. Please do not say that almost a billion Christains pray to the Mother of God.
davidpwithun: You equate being scholarly with being atheistic. I'm not an atheist; I'm just not dumb enough for that. I'm a Christian. And you clearly don't understand the Trinity.
davidpwithun: No, no, they didn't. This is historically untenable. And, yes, by the way, over a billion Christians believe in Mary as the Mother of God. What that has to do with things, I don't know, though.
KabaneTheChristian: Give me a break. Mary was spoken of as God-bearer hundreds of years before Constantine. She was called God-bearer while the Christians were being persecuted by Rome. St. Ignatius of Antioch, who was about to be martyred, referred to Jesus as God.
KabaneTheChristian: Do you understand the doctrines of the incarnation and Trinity? First, Jesus did not from all eternity possess a human nature. He took on a human nature by choosing to become incarnate. In His human nature, he was born and died. This was preached from the earliest days of the Church. Nobody teaches three gods in one. The Christian faith teaches three persons in one God. It is the Father, eternally existing with His Word and His Spirit.
thekingmaker10: Christianity is the antithesis of the pagan religion of ancient Rome. Also, of the 2 billion Christians on the Earth, about a billion of them DO in fact pray to the Mother of God (ie: the billion or so who are Roman Catholic).
Feerulace: (PART 1)According to an author, the council of Nicaea/Nicea 325 distinguished the true texts from the fake ones using the tradition of "miraculous selection". "After the bishops prayed a lot, the 4 texts flew by themselves onto the altar. The fake gospels fell to the floor. Once the 4 were chosen and were on the altar, it was prayed that if there was 1 with false words, it should drop to the floor which none dropped. Once done, the Holy Spirit, in the form of a dove, got on the...
Feerulace: (PART 2)..shoulder of each bishop and were told those 4 were authentic. Anyway, I'm losing respect for the bible that says that man came from a woman's rib, someone lived inside a big fish, someone cussed in the name of God for being called "bald" by children and 2 bears killed them. These same people who interpret the bible are the very same ones that say creation happened 4004 B.C....just ridiculous.
davidpwithun: Okay; well, this author was, to be completely blunt, full of crap. Nothing even remotely like this happened at the Council. The Council had absolutely nothing to do with choosing what books went in the Bible. Take a look at the primary texts (meaning, the texts written by those who attended the Council or by others shortly after the Council) and you'll see just how stupid this "author" really is in his/her assertions.
davidpwithun: Absolutely ridiculous; I agree. That is, unfortunately, what happens when the Bible is removed from its proper context: the Church. The Church, to put it in modern terms, owns the copyright on the Bible. Everybody else is plagiarizing and stealing what isn't theirs.
