Battery powered NS 999, classed BP4, goes to work for the first time in Rose Yard in Altoona. The unit was built using the frame of former NS GP38 2911, ex CR 7732, nee PC 7732. Special thanks to TK, AC and Mr. T for the heads up as well!

LOL What happens when the battery dies?The recycling cost of all those batteries is gonna be VERY expensive when they wear out in about 10 years.. Nice paint job, but that's about it though. tarmac2001: The NS black & white paint scheme is fine as it is when it came out in 1983. However some of it's management is trying to paint the company green like some former Southern Railway locomotives have been dressed in, but it's not for the heritage, it's for the image in the new environmental movement. All this crap took hold when these recent studies indicated how far a freight train can carry 1 ton on a gallon of fuel, yet most people already figured it's more than what trucks can do.

bnsfMAN93: When used in limited intermodal and short haul bulk (dump truck/grain truck) applications only , yes. But RoadRailers are evolving short-haul intermodal, so these short hauls may get even shorter.
