Manifesto - Principles of Practice:
I realized that I was creating a process wall.
48 hours (and many months more) of thoughts, ideas, and emotion tumbled out of me onto several poster boards, journal pages, and post-it notes. I am witness to my evolving questions.
My manifesto is about my visual representation, first on paper and on wall space, and second through linked still images, of my increasing awareness of my positionality. It also includes some reflections and thoughts in relation to the images. The use of paper and wall space enabled an initial production of material to interact with; the use and linkage of images enables me to create interactions and connections between material that has been produced at different times, but echoes similar themes. Significant questions guide my evolving ethical framework: Where do I come from? What is my personal methodology? What is meaningful work? How do guilt, hope, and power enter into work and relationships? Who is marginalized, and by whom? What is responsible art-making? What is communication across difference?
These are questions that I dont necessarily expect to find answers to; they are questions that I expect to continue to engage with. As I encounter individuals, groups, and ideas in response to these questions, I will take in and share what has been passed to me.
