Maynard Ferguson, In A Mellow Tone Video
From the debut of Maynard's Big Bop Nouveau band, June 1990. Besides the soloists MF mentions, Nathan Berg bass and Walter White trumpet, you also hear the lead playing of Craig Johnson and Roger Ingram.
pbuza: AWESOME!
jeroenpan: Tnx boss!
maynardwaltrip: Thanks for posting Brian!
HoustonTrumpet: Wow! Both trumpet solos here (Walter White's and Maynard's) are outstanding in that they are both highly melodic (that is, nicely shaped and beautiful) AND also highly technical and virtuosic. It is rare to find both of these characteristics so skillfully merged together in a single solo. And Maynard's lead trumpet playing is also in top form here. Watching this video reminds me of why Bud Herseth says that Maynard Ferguson is the greatest trumpet player of all time.
liljohnreplogle: wow!
38b: A young Nathan Berg. Probably around 17 yrs.
Jamestrumpet: I love this song! Played by my favourite trumpet player of all time (Maynard) with one of my favourite lead players of all time too (Roger Ingram). Thanks Brian. J
cmhammiel: Anyone know all the personnel on this clip?
UpperRegister: Awesome gr8 video,g awd you just got to love The Boss's projection power and sound.
Jamestrumpet: Any more from this gig mate?
DizzyShaw: This gig was at Johnny D's in Somerville? Sweet!
enlitened1234: is that a bit of be bop from MF?? nice
cccustommusic: Awesome chart, one of my favorite MF charts ever. Love this band, got a chance to see them twice and they were outstanding. Never did get to see them with Roger playing lead though, he had left by then and Craig had taken over.
