Snowdon Summit 26/10/09 7 of 21 Video

Snowdon at 3560 feet above sea level , is a majestic and popular summit surrounded by steep glaciated cwms, and sharp ridges. The dozen routes to the peak offer a challenge to every grade of visitor; from those for whom this is their first mountain experience, to the scrambler, climber and winter mountaineer.

The massifve mountain derives its English name from the Saxon Snow Dun, the snow hill or fortress. Located in the Snowdon National Park, it is the highest of the fifteen 3000 footers in Wales, and the highest mountain in both England and Wales, hence its popularity with the general public. In the Welsh language, the Park is called Parc Genedlaethol Eryri, the word Eryri meaning home of eagles.

The highest point on Snowdon is Yr Wyddfa meaning tumulus. The tumulus in question is said to be that of the giant Rhita Gawr killed by the legendary King Arthur. The mountains connections with King Arthur do not stop there; into one of its lakes, Llyn Llydaw, a mortally wounded Arthur threw his sword, the mighty Excalibur (Caledfwlch in Welsh).

Whilst this mythology will never be verified, there are other scars left behind by mans exploitation of the mountain. Many of the track ways are those of the now disused iron mines. The ruins of the miners homes are still very much evident, as are the mines themselves. One should not explorer these dark conduits into the mountains as vertical shafts and rock fall make them extremely hazardous.

Although Snowdon has likely been climbed since time immemorial, the first recorded ascent was by the botanist Thomas Johnson in 1639. During the Victorian period tourists came for the first time to the mountain. Their numbers increasing such, that in 1896, local guides and their ponies were replaced by a steam railway following the more forgiving gradient up from Llanberis. To this day, the Snowdon Mountain Railway carries passenger along the five miles of narrow gauge rack-and-pinion track to the controversial summit café and back.

A word for the wise though and everyone else lol.. KEEP AN EYE ON ALL KIDS at ALL TIMES and NEVER let your thought or eyes drift from them. It's easy to be distracted by the sheer AWESOMENESS of the Aura of the place, its energy and beauty , is of such magnitude... that you can forget .. because you are so in the moment .. with all that is.. its a feeling of reverence , and you are seeing and feeling 'God' expressed.
I am a Pagan, and love the Land Connectivity with Mind , Earth and Spirit and Space, so .. well you know what I mean lol.

This was an awsome shoot of the flypast, I could have been steadier but the terrain is well.... rocky lol..

FIRST AND FOREMOST look after your PARTY... be vigilent, and also mind your pets, especialy if they are old, I saw one dog struggling to make it down ! So be fair to your animal before you decide it can do the journey ok.
OK well the mext thing is HAVE FUN FUN FUN in The Welsh Heartland. We welcome you ALL whoever you are to our backyard , please do not drop litter and Keep Wales and everywhere else CLEAN so everyone can continue to enjoy this Pristine Place

Thanks :)
