Ground Hog Day (response to Biochematics) Video

Talking to a determinist about the movie ground Hog Day, just a bit. Around 6:35? or so when I say I'm not determined to do anything, that's not what I wanted to say. I stopped and changed thoughts mid stream.

Why does our subjective reality give us such a strong illusion of choice? (Determinists point of view.). Our subjective reality is that we have choice and if you believe that is an illusion, you'd have to admit the illusion is so strong that it seems like a relevant subject to look at. Why so strong on that? Some people are paralyzed in choice.

trick0171: You need to think about this in the term of every event having a cause. No real "choice" is ever made, as the preceding event(s) have lead to the one and only event that can happen. In other words, the causal events that have lead up to the swine flu could take no other route, because each event lead to the next and so fourth (including all of the causal interaction between living creatures, etc).
jedimasterbooboo: Right, so I'm predetermined to have pancakes instead of waffles? No, there's some variations on themes. If someone gets a communicable disease, that means different determiners have merged and it's a tougher case to make that the meeting itself was even determined. Also, going back to origins, the implications of this: alot is attributed to genetics, but life is more than that. Weather is not genetics. Also, why are we selected to have such a strong illusion of choice? (out of room, lol)
trick0171: Yes, you would be predetermined to have pancakes instead of waffles. What you perceive as variations are just options, but only one of those options ever follows from the causality that precedes it - and that causality cannot change due to the causality that precedes the causality, etc. It does not matter how many determiners have emerged, as they are determined themselves. Weather is an intricate causal relationship. Genetics is only a small part of the causal equation.
trick0171: "Also, why are we selected to have such a strong illusion of choice?" The illusion comes from our lack of being able to see all of the past causality of our thoughts and actions. It is this lack of information that creates this strong illusion of choice. :)
jedimasterbooboo: I actually get that more than I'm letting on. Can you watch my second video? I made one after this, I'm wondering what you can add to that. Thanks for coming!
