Sri Lankan Tamil Professionals. living abroad, claim that there are still landmines buried during the world war in Germany. They emphasised that the resettlement programme in Sri Lanka, expediting de-mining, is laudable.
The Sri Lankan Tamil Diaspora recently received an opportunity of inspecting the resettlement process and also the programme mooted to develop the North. They were also able to visit particularly, the welfare villages and meet the civilians who are sheltered there. Sri Lankan Tamil Professionals of countries such as the United States, Denmark and Germany visited these areas for two days. Their visit was organised by its Coordinator Chandra Fernando on the instructions of the Uthuru Wasanthaya Task Force.
Giving views to our correspondent after the visit, they said the civilians were living happily and the Government had streamlined these activities. They received an opportunity to have an awareness of the responsibilities that should be met by them. The programme mooted by the Government to remove mines is praiseworthy. The Government was discharging a maximum service on behalf of these civilians. They said they are satisfied with this work.
