ANOTHER WORLD: Carl's Redemption Pt. 254 (subject to change)
Carl Hutchins is back in Bay City and is determined to win the favor of not only its citizens but the love of his son, Ryan Harrison, and the heart of Rachel Cory. Carl's longtime enemies have other plans however. Is Carl a changed man? Will Kevin Anderson succeed in putting Carl behind bars? Will Carl be able to win the love and trust of his son Ryan? Will he be able to convince Ryan to fight for Vicky Hudson Harrison, currently married to his brother Grant?
In Part 254 (subject to change),
ANOTHERWORLDlover: Agreed...
eldorado61guy: What is his name called plays Victor ?
ANOTHERWORLDlover: The actor is Carlos Sanz. I have a wallpaper prepared with him as the star, along with Robyn Griggs (Maggie), Linda Dano (Felicia), James Goodwin (Kevin), Matt Crane (Matt Cory), Julian McMahon (Ian Rain), as well as some pairings, like Cass & Frankie (since I did separate wallpapers for both Stephen Schnetzer & Alice Barrett already), Rachel & Carl, Lorna & Felicia, Dean & Jenna, Jake & Paulina, Rachel & Jake, Lorna & Carl, Felicia & Jenna, John & Kelsey, etc. Look for them soon... :)
Richieygrl: I don't disagree. I thought he was a great guy and Sanz a more then capable actor. But they didn't do a lot with him. Didn't give him enough of a past other than being in recovery. It was easy to forget him if he wasn't in your face. And just when I was beginning to see potential with he and Alicia C's Lorna, she left the role and Robin C, while a fine actress, was no Lorna.
ANOTHERWORLDlover: I see what you mean. While I grew to like Robin Christopher's Lorna in time, she wasn't the same. I didn't let this deter me from enjoying her performances though. She did have much to bring to the show & I'd rather have her be the recast than having no Lorna at all. But she definitely wasn't the same. It's pretty much the same argument that many say when Anne Heche left & Jensen Buchanan took over. I think many of them have missed out on some great stories w/Jensen. Their loss ultimately.
Richieygrl: I adored Ellen, Anne, and Jensen in the Vicky role. They were all such good actresses, each took Vicky from strength to strength-showing the character in her brash youth, settling into her family and young adulthood and eventually as a mature much wiser eventual wife and mother. Never losing her fire or passion. And while I didn't feel the same about the Lorna recast, I can certainly appreciate your point of view. How awesome that folks still care about the show enough to still talk about it.
ANOTHERWORLDlover: I must elaborate further. Why I appreciated Robin Christopher's Lorna is that it provided Felicia to retain her motherly base. There was enough of a similarity to achieve that. However, if one needed to get their "Lorna fix" & was relying solely on Christopher's performance to do that, you were always going to come up short. Having her there kept things afloat that Coppolla's Lorna started. It was more function than performance. Losing Lorna altogether would've meant losing a part of Felicia too
ANOTHERWORLDlover: AW was caught in a situation where there was no perfect solution. Their only choice was to try to pick the less imperfect solution. Dropping Lorna altogether would've meant sacrificing a lot of story & interaction that many characters were dependent on to continue their growth (i.e., Felicia, Carl, & Morgan). It would've required coming up w/another character to achieve the same effect & that would've been criticized. Christopher had enough chemistry w/the cast & that had to be enough.
ANOTHERWORLDlover: Mind you, it's not perfect & you still miss Alicia Coppolla's Lorna while watching Christopher's onscreen. But by bringing Christopher on, you're only missing Coppolla whereas if Lorna had been dropped, many of the other characters would've felt off as well. At least they were able to keep much of their character's "truth" even if new Lorna's didn't seem authentic. That's why I think it was the better choice to have her on. Dropping Lorna altogether, you lose a lot more than just her.
romierenae: I so agree with you. I liked RC's Lorna enough and I think it was because I was just glad that they did not kill off the character. For Felicia's sake it would have been too tragic to give her back her daughter and then take her away again. Robin did well but Alicia's shoes were hard to fill.
FeliciasKid: I definitely agree with the majority of the *Lorna* opinions expressed here. While I absolutely adored AC in the role, I grew to appreciate RC's Lorna as well. I would prolly have accepted yet another re-cast just to be able to watch Felicia continue in the MamaBear role. Was a shame she didn't have either of her daughters around in the last years of the show.
FeliciasKid: Oh, yeah, forgot to add that I was a fan of Victor Rodriguez/Carlos Sanz. Didn't realize that he was still on the show when RC took over the role.
ANOTHERWORLDlover: And that was totally involuntary too. Robin Christopher was fired from AW during that time. I can't tell you what impact that had since I had stopped watching at around that time but I wasn't surprised. Charles Keating was let go as well not long after (or was it before?).
FeliciasKid: RC was fired? I thought she left on her own after her 3-year contract ended and also cuz real life BF (now hubby) Matt Crane also left the show.
ANOTHERWORLDlover: Yes, he was still on, but not for long. He called Alicia Coppolla's Lorna "sunshine" & Robin Christopher's Lorna "bright eyes" or something to address the new re-cast, but it was a no go. He & Christopher didn't seem to gel so he was inevitably written out. He was on for about 2 months when Christopher came on. It's too bad since he added a dimension to the show. They should've tried him w/someone new like they did Ian w/Josie after his dalliance w/Paulina went bust. Perhaps Sanz left willingly?
ANOTHERWORLDlover: Yep, she was definitely fired. She supposedly left town after Gabe died, grief stricken or something. I wasn't watching so I've no idea how it was depicted, but I remember reading where Linda Dano remarked that she thought it was a tragedy that the show took away her "daughter". Matt Crane I think left before Christopher was fired (again, I wasn't watching so I could be wrong) but even if not, it had nothing to do w/Christopher. If it had, he'd never come back for the end of the show.
FeliciasKid: Not sure why he left but I agree ~ he was worth keeping & trying to pair him with someone else. Too bad he couldn't have remained in Felicia's orbit cuz I thought they had great chemistry & maybe there would have been no need for the Walter Trask or Marshall Kramer storylines.
ANOTHERWORLDlover: I think the writers felt that for him & Felicia to have anything storywise, she'd have to hit bottom again & I don't think they were willing to do that. That'd be "been there, done that". I also think that by the time Christopher came on, Victor was seen as an extension of Lorna (much like Frankie was seen as an extension of Cass) & having gone through the rape w/her, it'd be too odd to pair him up w/someone else suddenly. Still, he could've been kept on even if he wasn't romantically involved.
FeliciasKid: If I'm not mistaken, Lorna left town (with the help of off-camera Jenna) to get away from Cindy Brooke. I think Felicia traveled to Lorna's location to break the news of Gabe's death (also off-camera). I agree with Linda ~ it was cruel to have given Felicia not one but two daughters and then yank them away. Felicia had great *mom* instincts with Lisa & Matt before the show finally gave her offspring of her own.
ANOTHERWORLDlover: Linda remarked that so many of the cast had been fired & she mentioned Christopher specifically as well as John Bolger, Alice Barrett (her exit left Dano "cold & empty") & David Forsyth. She was happy that John Aprea came back as a Lucas look-alike but it brought about David Forsyth's leaving, which she felt guilty about since she asked the show to bring back Aprea. She felt her actions set in motion Forsyth's departure. He was put to recurring status & he refused, opting to quit instead.
FeliciasKid: Aprea's 2nd stint with AW lasted less than a year. Was he fired or did he quit? Not sure who's idea it was to have him return as a lookalike but it definitely was not well-received. As for Linda, I heard she wouldn't agree to re-sign with AW in 1998 unless the TPTB agreed to keep Stephen Schnetzer on the show as well.
Richieygrl: You're right, on all points. As a viewer I just felt so cheated when they recast with RC. I watched her for a while then gave up on her altogether - I really would have preferred no Lorna at all rather than the one I felt was being shoved down my throat, which in hindsight wasn't fair but I was so young back then that I didn't understand the consequences if the Lorna character had been written out altogether.
ANOTHERWORLDlover: It's not a question of me being right & you being wrong. You're entitled to your opinion & it does have merit. I was just explaining why *I* felt it was better to go w/Christopher as a recase instead of no Lorna at all, even if she was a weaker version. Your reasons are just as valid so no need to amend them. :)
tvfoodlady: RC was the only Lorna I knew. It really irked me that they kept stupid, new Cindy and dumped Lorna and Gabe. Kim Rhodes is a fine actress but the character was never called for.
ANOTHERWORLDlover: Kim Rhodes was new to the show & so her salary was at the starting rate compared to Robin Christopher & John Bolger. Christopher had been on the show for 3+ years & was considered at least a mid-level actor salary-wise. Again, I stopped watching at this time, so I have no frame of reference story-wise, but I do know that saving money was the primary motivation behind many of the show's firings at this point.
