douro20: If they allowed it you could run the oil in an oil engine. I know it's not allowed in Germany because of a law requiring all used oil to be collected and recycled. It's for some other reason other than environmental; I forget exactly why.

travisjeanelle: Yeah got to be nice to have a place to get rid of your oil and filters. Around here there isnt any place but once a year I can drive 25 miles and pay for it so I end up just burning it. I know its bad but what can I do.

R5alive: Until the mid to late 80's waste oil was use for dust control on gravel roads in Canada. Popular Mechanics had a story on uses for waste oil back in the 70's that said it could be used as a water proofing stain on fence posts, mix it with gravel to fill potholes and the gravel with stay put, use as fire starter in woodstoves, filter it and add it to your heating oil, or fill a hole with gravel and pour your old oil in there instead of dumping it down the drain or putting it in the garbage.
