Waddell's Triple Play!!!! Video

Labamba32: Something is wrong here. First of all if the infield fly rule was declared the out at second was never made since the batter would have been out as soon as the umpire called infield fly meaning the runner trying to advance to second was no longer forced and needed to be tagged, the play at third looked good as a tag was applied. This would have resulted in safe at 2nd, batter out, runner advancing to third out, run scored (looks like a runner was on third). Not a triple play.

Labamba32: Furthermore, I would not have called the infield fly on this play as the 2nd baseman would have been required to dive or make more then an ordinary effort to catch the ball. I suspect that no infield fly was called and there was 1 out when the play started, the force was called at 2nd for the 2nd out and the tag at 3rd was the 3rd out. Also of note is that a tag was required at 3rd since the out at 2nd was made first, which removed the force on the runner advancing to 3rd.
