Mandarin Ducks in the snow, Wraysbury, London

Some of our flock of 40 Mandarins sitting patiently waiting in the snow with the mallard and swan. The males are now in full breeding colours, being January in England. They will keep their wing sails until after breeding and then lose them to become plain looking birds out of breeding season. These gorgeous, secretive little Chinese tree ducks are surviving on free bread and especially high protein peanuts to stave of the minus 3C snowy winter
