IT poured with rain, but that could not put out the flaming tar barrels that were passed from shoulder to shoulder through Ottery St Mary or dampen the enthusiasm of the rollers. The tradition of barrel rolling has been drawing the crowds in their thousands to the rural market town for more than 150 years.
