Santa Train 2009
The Tri-State Chapter of the NRHS sponsored a Santa Train on December 12th. The train consisted of 4024, 4113, and 9 Comet Vs. Santa was in the trailing cab car (6023), and gave a wave and a jingle of bells as he passed. Here is the train arriving at Netcong. I was forced to stand on the dark side of the tracks, because the train arrived at the same time we pulled in, and I didn't have time to cross the tracks and set up the tripod. Spring of 1993 Chicago Rails, Floods, Detours and the NRHS Convention Part 7
We continue to watch the heavy action at Stateline crossing as we wait for the Steam train to head back north. And conclude with the NKP 587 & 765 headed north past the tower. We hear the train whistling through town for a few minutes before it arrives. Quite a show!!!!!

Here we visit stateline crossing after the steam train. Alot of action is seen on a real busy day. There was still alot of traffic to be moved as the flooding caused reroutes and delays. Stateline tower was still standing back then as well. And of course alot of nice lash ups are seen.

Here's the full runby of the NKP 587 & 765. Hammond was a great spot to watch these trips. It's too bad NS doesn't do these anymore. I feel lucky to have seen them. We listen as the pair fade off in the distance.

Spring of 1993 Chicago Rails, Floods, Detours and the NRHS Convention Part 4
In part 4 we find ourselves at Dolton Il. Where it is busy! Alot of railfans are present at the diamonds who are in town for the convention. The next morning were near downtown Hammond awaiting the double header of the NKP 587 and NKP 765. We listen to them whistle through the downtown area.

After we finished at Elmhurst we head over to Franklin Park Il. to see how things are on the Soo Line. And see some F-40-C's and some more freight action.

At Elmhurst IL. we catch a ton of freights headed both in and out of Proviso yard and some interesting lash ups as whatever power was available was put into service. And we'll see Amtrak No. 5 detouring with a Metra E-9 on the point for cab signaling.

The spring of 1993 was tough on the railroads of the midwest. Torrential rains flooded most lines to the point that others had to detour on neighboring routes. In the end at the height of it all the CNW overland route was the only one high enough to remain open. Traffic back up in the Chicago area due to this and well....... It was a fans paradise once things began to move add to this the NRHS convention with The UP 3985 NKP 765 and 587 in town and I had to take a week off work just catch it ...
