January 2010 (Photo-A-Day Project)

I was going to vlog a life update, but I thought I'd let the photos tell the main story. January hasn't been a good month, really. But it is finally over. I have come out of it a little shaken but hopefully looking up. As a result of an 'eventful first fortnight', guilt for which I am seemingly not allowed to get over just yet, I am now single again, and slightly manhating, with all sorts of unpleasant reflective thoughts bouncing about my head. But these things work themselves out in the end. Having clarified that my flatmates are not completely close minded, I'm know binding more often at university. My exams are over, and I start back on lectures tomorrow. I am now a Labour Party member, and will be trying to find my university's Labour Club on Tuesday, as well as the LGBT society (and to persuade them to add a Q). On Friday I will be seeing and hopefully meeting a hero of mine, Alan Bennett, the week after one of my best friends comes to visit and then I return to Manchester for...

FAGG - T.

FAGG - T.

Faggot, often shortened to fag, is a pejorative term and common homophobic slur against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people, and is English slang. Its pejorative use has spread from the United States to varying extents elsewhere in the English-speaking world through mass culture including movies, music and Internet. The term has additional meanings in British English, where "faggot" traditionally means a bundle of sticks and faggots are a kind of meatball.[3] In British English, "fag" is common slang for a cigarette or for hard work. In some UK public schools, fagging was the name given to the practice where a younger boy (a "fag") acted as an unpaid servant for an older boy. The word meaning "bundle of sticks" is ultimately derived, via Old French and Italian from Latin fascis (also the origin of the word fascism).[4] The origins of the word as an offensive epithet for homosexuals are, however, rather obscure, although the word has been used in English since the...

GAY PRIDE PARADE 2009

GAY PRIDE PARADE 2009

BALCONYTV DUBLIN 27/06/2009 The city centre of Dublin was filled with colour, noise, music whistles and chants this afternoon as thousands marched in this year's gay pride march. The parade was led by UCD academic Ailbhe Smyth and filled the whole length of O'Connell Street before ending at Dublin council city offices for music and speeches. "Pride and Prejudice" was the main theme with many dressed in wedding gowns and tuxes. Crowds chanted: "What do we want? Marriage. When do we want it? Now." Katherine Zappone and Ann Louise Gilligan marched in the dresses they wore for their Canadian wedding in 2003. Organisers of the march estimate that 12000 took part in the event, although other estimates put the figure lower than that. The parade follows the publication of the Civil Partnership Bill by the Government yesterday that will give statutory partnership rights to gay and lesbian couples. Some 60 people dressed in a half tux or wedding dress. Organised by Marriage Equality and Noise...
