Hank C. Burnette - "Rock Around The Town"

Hank C. Burnette -

Yet another tribute to one of those 'gone but not forgotten' pioneers of Rock'n Roll. I first heard this obscure SUN recording by pianist and singer Dean Beard on some bootleg compilation in the '70s and obviously liked what I heard! Here's some trivia about the man behind this classic Rockabilly outing: Dean Beard was born 1936 in Coleman, West Texas and sometimes opened for Elvis, Scotty and Bill in Breckenridge and Stamford, TX. He formed a band called Dean Beard & The Crew Cats which featured Dean on piano, James Steward on lead guitar, Jimmy Seals on sax and Dash Crofts on drums where they played regularly to large crowds in the area's American Legions, vfw's and clubs. In 1956 he went to Memphis to record briefly at Sun Records. Then suddenly lady luck struck and Dean found himself with a hit single on the Atlantic label entitled "Rakin' And Scrapin'" b/w "On My Mind Again" (45-1137), released on April 29, 1957. It was initially released on the small Edmoral label one month...

Hank C. Burnette - "Hip Shakin' Mama"

Hank C. Burnette -

Here's my version of Jackie Lee "Jack The Cat" Cochran's old '56 Sims label bopper again! As you may recall I did in fact upload this one several months back as part of my 3 Frostie videos (the world famous hot rockin' cockatoo with a dance routine that almost makes you seasick if you watch it too long...terrific birdie!!), but deleted it as I got a copyright infringement message backstabbed at me from the owners of Frostie, which came as a real surprise to me as they had previously allowed me to use this amazing bird in a few of my vids...but what the heck, that's history now, so..."Hip Shakin' Mama" was the flip side of Jackie Cochran's "Riverside Jump", which I have also uploaded my version of here on YT! So, to keep the circle unbroken, I hope you'll like my humble effort of makin' justice to this 'oldie but goodie', which I cut sometime in the '70s (don't ask me for any specific date, cause I have never ever made any recording notes on any of the stuff I've ever recorded! I'm...

Hank C. Burnette - "I Forgot To Remember To Forget"

Hank C. Burnette -

I've always rated this Charlie Feathers penned SUN classic as one of Elvis' best performances on SUN, together with the flip side of the terrific 45 it was part of, "Mystery Train". I think the drums played a big part in the amazingly full overall sound (played by fellow SUN musician Johnny Bernero), in conjunction, of course, with Scotty's flawless lead and Bill's thumping dog house bass! I've always had a keen ear for 'galloping' drums in ballads and have used that formula on several tracks myself throughout the years (one of the first must've been "Bet Your Bottom Dollar" on the US Seagull label, released in 1972), possibly from the first time I ever heard this track by Elvis when it was re-released by RCA over here in Europe as part of an EP in the late '50s! I mean, just the title alone is pure genious, "I Forgot To Remember To Forget", voow!! Just imagine what could've happened musical wise if Elvis had continued recording at the immortal 706 Union Ave. studio in Memphis!!!! I...

Feeling kinda 'stuffy' and slow after the year's most overfilled gastronomic hullaballoo are we?? Have no fear...ole Hank C's to the rescue! Clear the living room floor...on with the blue suedes...throw out the kids and the pets (well...)...what's that noise...it's comin' this way...a wild thumpin'...like bats outta ****...can ya feel the ground tremblin' and sway...head fer th´ hills...jump inta the well...pray to th´ Lord...pay up your overdue debt...whop-t-bop...it's Hank C. Burnette!! Hrrm, don't blame this 'charade' on me, it was created many a blue moon ago from the pen of one Hank 'Big Cat' Taylor out of London for the English Rock & Roll Collector monthly magazine and if anyone knows about his wherabouts nowadays PLEASE let me know! Anyway, here's my 2nd tribute to Rompin' Ronnie Hawkins, a neat and quiet little piece called "Wild Little Willie" cut in the early '70s! A perfect tune if you want to annoy your neighbors and eventually see them emmigrate to another...

Hank C. Burnette - "Hop, Skip & Jump"

Hank C. Burnette -

I can't for my world remember whom I first associated this rockabilly standard with! It sure wasn't the Collins Kids (Larry & Lorrie), from their jumpin' effort of '57 (Larry sure was a bundle of joy to watch in those days and had a great teacher in Joe Maphis sharing the right guitar slinger moves with the young kid)! I'll get back to it later as soon as my 'brain fog' clears up! Anyway, I must've cut at least four (!) different versions of this track myself and the one I share with you here is possibly the first version I ever cut! In fact, I can't even remember when I cut it (did I mention 'brain fog'!). Found it just the other day on yet another old cassette that had somehow survived while the original reel-to-reel tape is long gone! Had to do a fade in on this one too, since the intro was cut out on the cassette, but it kinda worked anyway. And since it's such an 'oldie' I've included some youth black & white pics of yours truly to go along with it, as a bonus, ha, ha! Hope you...

Hank C. Burnette - "Rock-A-Bye Baby"

Hank C. Burnette -

A MOTHER'S WORK IS NEVER DONE!! I just couldn't resist it! This panda 'mom' and her apparently new born 'pup' just had to be tied up with a track I've previously uploaded here on YT, originally titled "Liquid Ice" and cut a couple of years ago! Hold onto your breeches and watch this couple GO!!!!!!!! I sincerely and honestly hope this tireless mom and her rockin' offspring get some well earned bamboo between their 'funky' routines, LOOL!!!! ROCK ON!!

Hank C. Burnette - "I Fought The Law"

Hank C. Burnette -

Robert Gaston Fuller (October 22, 1942 - July 18, 1966), known professionally as Bobby Fuller, was an American Rock'n Roll Singer, songwriter and guitar player best known for his singles "I Fought The Law" and "Love's Made A Fool Of You," recorded with his mid-'60s group The Bobby Fuller Four. Born in Baytown, Texas, Robert Gaston Fuller spent most of his youth in El Paso, Texas, where he idolized Buddy Holly. He played in clubs and bars and recorded on independent record labels in Texas, with a constantly changing line-up, during the early 1960s. The only constant band members were Fuller himself (on vocals and guitar), and his younger brother, Randy Fuller on bass. Most of these independent releases (except two songs that were recorded at the studio of Norman Petty in Clovis, New Mexico and an excursion to Yucca Records, also in New Mexico) were recorded in Fullers' own home studio, with Fuller acting as the producer. He even built a primitive echo chamber in the backyard. The...

Hank C. Burnette - "Maybe Baby" (A Tribute to Buddy)

Hank C. Burnette -

"Maybe Baby" was originally recorded by Buddy Holly and The Crickets in 1957. It was written by Norman Petty and Charles Hardin (aka Holly) and reached 17th in the US charts but 4th in the UK charts (where Holly toured that year). It was recorded by yours truly as an instrumental for my 3rd UK Sonet release, "Hot Licks & Fancy Tricks", released in 1979. For you technical possessed out there I might add that I ran my Country Gent through a pitch shifter during the middle part to get an almost synthesized sound...pretty crazy but it worked! Other than that the whole thing is pretty standard and a breeze to record! Enjoy! Hank C...

Hank C. Burnette - "Froggy Went A-Courtin'" (alt. version)

Hank C. Burnette -

Oakie dookie...here's my 3rd and final recording from the now deleted 'Frostie Trilogy'...and once again you may remember this as part of one of the 3 vids I uploaded several months back featuring the amazing cockatoo, Frostie, doing his breathtaking dance routine! Sadly enough I had to delete that video, because Frostie's owners threaten me with a copyright infringement, even though they had previously given me free hands to 'use' Frostie in a few videos...strange decision, indeed, but that's history now so I've already forgotten about it! This particular track has to be one of the oldest I've ever recorded, with a composing history going back all the way to the mid-1500's!!!! It's original title was "Frog Went A-Courtin'" and it's an English language folk song. Its first known appearance is in Wedderburn's 'Complaint of Scotland' from 1548 under the name "The frog came to the myl dur", though this is in Scots rather than English. There is a reference in the London Company of...

Hank C. Burnette - "Lemme Outta Here"

Hank C. Burnette -

HANK C. GOES TECHNO!!!! GOOD GRIEF, WHAT'S THE WORLD COMIN' TO??!!!! OK, I PLEA GUILTY OF ALL CHARGES, SO HELP ME GOD!! This outragious effort was truly and soley a 'just for fun' escape into present day digital territories, cut entirely on the comp as a passtime subject to demonstrate how incredibly EASY it is to 'compose' music (??) today!! I did it shortly before I had to go through an operation in March, 2007 (NO, NOT A BRAIN SURGERY!!) just to prove to myself that I still like to fool around with all kinds of electronic gadgets! And God knows that today's 'gadgets' are far more elaborate than those I remember from yesterday and a whole lot easier to work with! Anyone with the slightest degree in musicality should be able to come up with something like this in just about no time at all, as long as you've got a bit of fantasy and enjoy pushing buttons! In the good ole days of reel-to-reel machines and analog technology you had to work pretty hard and have heaps of knowledge and...
