Northumbria Rail's MD Dave Shell is seen driving the 323 674-2 to test the brake set up and the transmission. The engine had the tappets set again, and there is still no exhaust or silencer fitted hence the rasp! The gearbox is getting more responsive with more use. The other similar loco is Gmeinder 4861 aka 323.539-7, with ALCo 77120 aka BSC 801 behind. Further information is available at northumbria-rail.co.uk

A short video showing John Day driving Loco 50 and bringing the HPA hopper wagon back Up the yard and buffereing up to Loco 51. A portable head lamp was carried as the front lights were removed while painting a few years ago; they will be refitted soon with the third headlight above the radiator to give the triangular pattern.

This video shows Loco 50 being test driven by myself after some more engine work. The engine will need the tappets set again after some of the heads were retightend, and there is also no exhaust or silencer fitted hence the rasp! The gearbox takes a bit of getting used to and the direction controller had been put in Neutral hence the lack of movement for a few seconds while I refilled the drive. The other similar loco is Gmeinder 4861 aka 323.539-7, with ALCo 77120 aka BSC 801 behind ...

After fitting yet another replacement gasket to cyl # 1 and setting the tappets another crank up was undertaken and this time the engine burst into life very easily and settled down to as nice even idle. Loco 51 can be seen in front.

After a bit of tinkering with the engine, and the flushing of the fuel system another attempt was made to start the loco up.
