Kepler Spies Changing Phases On Planet HAT-P-7

NASA's new exoplanet-hunting Kepler space telescope has detected the atmosphere of a known giant gas planet, demonstrating the telescope's extraordinary scientific capabilities. The observations were collected from a planet called HAT-P-7, known to transit a star located about 1000 light years from Earth. The planet orbits the star in just 2.2 days and is 26 times closer than Earth is to the sun. Its orbit, combined with a mass somewhat larger than the planet Jupiter, classifies this planet as ...

Direct Imaging of Exoplanets with Adaptive Optics, Coronagraphy, and Differential Imaging

Direct Imaging of Exoplanets with Adaptive Optics, Coronagraphy, and Differential Imaging

Not a povray animation, but it shows the interesting aspects of trying to image an extrasolar planet from the ground: Atmospheric turbulence is corrected by so-called adaptive optics on modern telescopes. The animation shows a "normal" observation on the left, seeing correctd by standard, contemporary AO systems in the center, and a correction as it is expected from the next generation of "extreme" AO systems. The top row shows the instantaneous image an astronomer would get to see through ...

For my astronomy class we had to take the concept of extra solar planets and make a creative project out of them. So naturally, I wrote a rap to Ice Ice Baby. It's awesome. AWESOME, NOT NERDY, thnkuvrymch. Kay well it's pretty nerdy. To the extreme. The art that looks awesome is not my own, and I do not claim to own it. A number of those picture, however, ARE mine. If you're so inclined to want them you may use them, but don't say they're yours. Here are the lyrics to "Extra Solar Planets ...

Comparison Of GJ 758 Solar System With Ours

This clip shows a visual comparison of the solar system (the sun in the center, encircled by the orbits of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) and the GJ 758 system. The animation covers a total of 1200 years, the time scale in the face-on view is 6.75 years per second. It is based upon parameters of the exoplanet GJ 758 B derived by Thalmann, Carson, Janson et al. ... "extrasolar planets" "GJ 758" GJ 758 exoplanets

of at least 3.5 years, Kepler will use a photometer developed by NASA to continuously monitor the brightness of over 100000 stars in a fixed field of view. The data collected from these observations will be analyzed to detect periodic fluctuations that indicate the presence of extrasolar planets (planets outside our solar system) that are in the process of crossing the face of other stars. ... telescopes. Spitzer's scientific results include the study of the formation and evolution of galaxies in the early Universe, understanding energy sources in ultraluminous galaxies, the study of star formation and evolution, observations of exoplanets and their atmospheres, and determining the structure and evolution of planetary disks around nearby stars. After a brief description of the Spitzer mission, results from Spitzer's extragalactic and galactic observational programs will be presented ...

Methuselah extrasolar planet or officially B1620-26 b

"Methuselah is the only planet to have received a biblical name, although two additional extrasolar planets have been given mythological names (just like in the solar system), those planets being Bellerophon and Osiris. It is much more likely that Methuselah formed in orbit around the star that has now evolved into the white dwarf, and that the star and planet were only later captured into orbit around the neutron star. Stellar encounters are not very common in the disk of the Milky Way, ...
