
So, I filled two large bin-bags with a lot of junk, and then moved a ton of stuff to the storage shed (including my bedside table, the giant chair, and the other bookshelf).
I replaced the table with a shoe-stand I've had lying around unused because it was too large to fit by the door, and two shelves from the bookshelf (will be replacing them with nicer ones and then make rice-paper screens for the sides and put a lamp inside it!)
I found an old window-sill like thing that matches the one I already have, in our cleaning-room, and put it on a pair of magazine-pillars (http://www.re-nest.com/re-nest/how-to/how-to-craft-a-table-using-old-magazines-060208). It's quite stable, and I now have a cosy little reading-corner just like I've always wanted :) An added bonus is that it helps hide the ugly wall-sockets. Replaced the chair with the beanbag.
Put the glass display-table thing in the corner where the second bookshelf stood, just for now.
