After extracting it from the ground you can see the volva or sac at the bottom of this mushroom. These are found in the same woods as the chanterelles and other edible species. You may not see it often but if and when you do, avoid it like the plague! ... death cap amanita poisonous

I found a partial chanterelle fairy ring in a small clearing in the otherwise dense woods. This spot is only a few miles from downtown Olympia, Wa. I sound a little out of breath because these woods are filled with fallen trees from a big windstorm a few years back, lots of climbing over, under and balancing on them, not to mention very dense ground cover to constantly wade through. John Skelton. A simple chicken and chanterelle pasta / casserole. I picked about a pound of chanterelles on the way home and stopped by the grocery store for a rotisserie chicken. cooked with sherry, chicken and mushroom stock. Enough for a few meals this week. These are some pictures of mushrooms that were taken on a nice Saturday afternoon on Queen Charlotte Islands. I can't identify many of these mushrooms, the big orange one with white dots is Amanita muscaria, and there is a Shaggy Mane (Coprinus comatus) in there somewhere too. At the end there is a false chantrelle (Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca.)
