Decus - Algorithm Error (Instrumental Mix)

My latest creation. I don't normally do this but I am giving this one as a freebie. It was actually inspired by an algorithm error in Last.fm's "Similar Artists" software. Anyone who looks at my profile will note that I bare no resemblence to any of the people on the Similar Artists section on my Last.FM profile page. Except maybe Kirt. Please do tell me what you think and if you intend to downloaded from Last.FM or my myspace page.

Fireworks at end of Edinburgh Festival 6 Sept 2009

This is just a short video of the firework display which marks the end of the Edinburgh Festival. Sorry about the dodgy, shaky camera work. 'Not up to my usual standard, I know, but it was blinkin' cold! :P I had planned to do a longer, properly edited video with specially composed music but things didn't go quite according to plan with the filming, but I thought I may as well post up something anyway.
Rare Marillion Picture Disc 1 AVI

This is a rare and beautiful picture disc recording of Heart Of Lothian by Marillion. This record is precious to me. You probably note how delicate I am in placing the arm onto the record. I am posting this as a tribute to both Marillion and the artist, Mark Wilkinson, who did the picture. The picture shows a drummer boy standing bare foot on a misty Calton Hill in Edinburgh. I believe the boy is supposed to represent Fish as a child. This extended mix of the song has a beautiful intro which, in the album, had vocals added. I personally think it sounds great without the vocals there. I do not intend to breach anyones copyright nor tread on anyones toes, Only to tribute the band and the creator of the wonderful art work... and to share this truly beautiful picture disc record with the world.

Incredibly rare mix of Popcorn (Gershon Kingsley) performed by TIC '88 (The Woodstock Mix)

This is a vinyl copy of a very rare version of Kingsley's Popcorn performed by TIC Released in 1988. Posted to display yet another version of what is probably the most covered record in the world! Sorry for the shocking sound quality. My ol' record player is litterally held together by bits of sticky tape. I'll upgrade when I am feeling a bit more flush. :) Hehe, you want lo-tech? You've got it!

The Airbus A380's first, and probably only, flight over Cramond, Edinburgh

The Airbus A380, the world's largest commercial airliner, flying in Scotland, for the first time ever, over the River Almond, Cramond, Edinburgh on Saturday the 5th of Sept 2009. Airband radio dialogue included, with subtitbles. It's a pity you don't get a true impression of the size of the A380 from this video. Trust me, this is one mother-FUDGING BIG plane!!! OO

100% 8-bit audio version of ZX Spectrum/+ ad (advert/commercial)

I couldn't get the speccies to run in sync so, instead, I just multitracked 1 ZX Spectrum +2, 3 times. What you are hearing is 100% pure ZX Spectrum! :D I must admit I cheated a little... the bass notes on the Spectrum +2 don't quite go low enough so I pitch shifted the track with the bass line down by 1 octave and mixed that with the original sound. The visuals are, of course, not a Spectrum but, again, a video effect, (with a genuine Spectrum loading border). I tried with the Videoface but it just wasn't fast enough. I might yet try using the Videoface footage on the ZX Spectrum+ anyway... 'see how I feel.

8-bit style ZX Spectrum/+ ad (advert/commercial)

This is my 8-bit style rendition of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum and Spectrum + ad from 1983. Seen here: www.youtube.com I thought it only fitting for the Spectrum to have a go at playing it's own theme tune. :) The music you are hearing is 70% pure ZX Spectrum +2 (machine code) and 10% Atari STE, both helped by a little bit of DX7 (bass and marimba) and a Mellotron emulator. No prizes for guessing where they come in. ;) I was going to do the graphics with the videoface too but there is obvious limitations... however, I am still working on a PURE, GENUINE 8-bit version featuring music by 3 ZX Spectrum +2's and a 128+ for the graphics... as soon as I work out a way to sync the 3x +2 Spectrums. For the meantime I have used a half-tone filter to create a, kind of, 8-bit visual effect. The whole lot, as usual, is beefed up by a compressor and the trusty Alesis Midiverb. When this ad first came out I loved the music and swore to my parents that, one day, I will do a full length cover of that...
