Insurance as a risk management strategy has several inherent limitations. If the risk becomes too large, insurance doesnt work, a la Hurricane Katrina. The analog in health insurance is the Baby Boom demographic. When that geriatric hurricane hits, health insurers will be totally swamped. Its just a numbers game. If were wise, well look down the road a piece and, taking the long view, uncouple health from money.
