Lava Burns White Shelterpod In Kilauea

Lava Burns White Shelterpod In Kilauea

This shelterpod was owned, designed and built by Mr. Paddy Daly who lives in Bellyacres Eco-village adjacent to Seaview Estates. Paddy was welcomed in to Bellyacres as family would be when the lava flows inundated the area in early 2008 and made it impractical (and illegal) for him to continue living in his private property. The shelterpod was built on lava flows from the 80's or early 90's about 1000 feet from the coast. It was a unique design consisting of a small living pod resting on a ...

Kilauea Surface Flow Oct 15 09

These clips show a pahoehoe flow near Kalapana just after dawn. This flow broke out from the main tube about four miles upstream. It is now only one mile from the ocean in the coastal plain between Pulama Pali and the Pacific Ocean. The ocean entry plume shown is being fed by the lava which remained in the main tube. If the surface flow continues in the same direction, it will soon be flowing over the existing tube which is feeding the ocean entry, and the possibility exists that a new tube ...

Forest Lava Flow Aug 8 09

Once again, one of the lava tubes on Kilauea became blocked and the lava was forced to the surface. These clips show the surface flows going through a forest of very large trees in an undeveloped area of the Royal Gardens subdivision. This forest had a large number of huge mango trees and appeared to have been an old settlement as there were rock walls and sea shells in the area.
