Fixing The Keykeeper's Pickup Truck Headlight Switch

Fixing The Keykeeper's Pickup Truck Headlight Switch

The Keykeeper's truck had another breakdown! This time around, the headlight switch stopped working correctly. It would frequently introduce a delay before the headlights would turn on, and arcing sounds could be heard coming from the switch. It was just another case of some slightly underrated contacts developing burned spots over time that would prevent the flow of enough electricity for things to work properly and reliably. Most later GM vehicles switch only a signal line with the in-dash ...

Honda Update November 2009

Honda Update November 2009

Here's what we found and what we've done so far. One valve--an intake on cyl #2--got dinged by the piston. The question is, did it get that way from the timing belt slipping or did another malfunction that made parts come loose cause the valve to jam and the timing to jump?

IBM PS/2 Road Trip

IBM PS/2 Road Trip

The call came out to collect some PS/2s located in Kentucky or they'd be recycled. I went after them and got to see a little more of the US as a bonus. Most importantly, I had fun making the trip and it will be interesting (maybe even fun) to sort through the systems and stuff. Of about half of the systems, the majority are at least basically functional. I plan to make a video later about restoring a PS/2 using one of these systems as an example.

Projection Clocks

Projection Clocks

The two clocks in this video have been around for as long as I can remember, and then they kind of disappeared. I found both of them recently, sitting in the darkness of my grandfather's seldom-used workshop in his basement. I'd love to know approximately how old they are. They can't be all that old, but I know they were around when I was very young--so I'd guess they are from sometime in the 1980s. These clocks use a simple flashlight bulb for their projection, and run it at lower than its ...

Halloween at the Roach Palace

Halloween at the Roach Palace

The start of the night before it got too dark to make a video. I didn't know it for sure at the time, but the decorated Reliant Wagon turned out to be a huge hit with almost everyone who stopped. And we had a good turnout, probably at least 150-200 kids stopped by. We also put out REAL oil lanterns, some of them vintage and others much newer. (I believe it is still possible to buy the classic Dietz brand lantern new. We have some new ones, and a few vintage ones, all of which are fully ...

Making A Furnace Fan Speed Selector

Making A Furnace Fan Speed Selector

I'm pleased with how this worked out, so here's the video. Since I've posted several others alongside this one, I don't feel bad about it! A rotary switch would have been a nicer choice in terms of size occupied and the amount of wiring required. Everything I could find was either too small, too big (too many switch points) or too expensive. So I did this instead. The big thing here is the way that the switch logic prevents more than one speed tap from ever being energized. Each switch can ...
