Triang Princess Victoria 50 years old and still going strong December 2009

Triang Princess Victoria 50 years old and still going strong December 2009

A contrast of two locomotives from The Triang and Hornby stables, with a 50 year difference in their ages. The loco on the inner track running with the Evening Postal is now 50 years old and is still running well. The detail is not what we have come to expect from today's superb models, but this comes from the days when they were built to last, and take rough handling. So I have made this short sequence to give the old girl a little recognition after years of loyal service...Bob...

Santa Specials on the Gwili 12/12/2009

Everything is very leisurely in deepest Carmarthenshire, and on a bitterly cold but clear day, I visited with my grandson to film the start of this years Santa Specials. The first service with D2178 top and tailing with 'Olwen' is seen passing Cwmdwtfran on it's way from Bronwydd to Llwyfan Cerrig where Santa was waiting. Birds singing, the nearby River Gwili flowing by. You then see the return service in glorious sunshine, and finally the 12.30 departure from Bronwydd. Then I'm afraid ...

Rare Sight of Snow Plough Test Train 10/12/2009

Rare Sight of Snow Plough Test Train 10/12/2009

On a beautiful morning we see 66193 and 66079 arriving at Llandeilo junction with the 2Z99 09.00 Margam to Llanelli Snow Plough Test Train. I have been asked many times how the driver can see with the snow plough up front. There are two areas on the plough cut away on each side to assist with visibilty, there is also a traction inspector on board to help with signal sighting and seeing around blind bends. It is then seen returning to Margam and takes the Central Wales Line to join the ...

31601 & 31106 2Z08 Whitland to Bristol 09/12/2009

On a very dull and windy day British & American Railway Services liveried 31601 leads 31106 in Blue Livery on the 2Z08 Track Recording Train working from Whitland to Bristol via all the West Wales Branches, and is seen passing Pembrey. This service was scheduled to be worked by the class 150 converted unit 950001 which was failed and replaced by this combination which is a very rare sight in West Wales.....Bob

The 'Royals' on The Northern Belle, Bristol to Carmarthen 1st run 09/12/2009.

On a dull and gloomy day, we see Royal Class 67's 67006 and 67005 Top & Tail the Bristol to Carmarthen section of two runs scheduled for today, as the eleven coach train speeds Westwards through Pembrey and Burry Port Station towards Carmarthen. After a brief stay, the train is seen passing Pembrey on the return service to Bristol running 15 minutes late at this point. A little excitement in far flung Carmarthenshire....Bob

Cardiff Central, Wind & Rain 05/12/2009

Some interesting footage shot at Cardiff Central Station after dark on a wet and windy Saturday afternoon. The station was extremely busy with various trains arriving and departing every few minutes. I have wanted to film these conditions for some some, as it brings back happy memories of train spotting during these long Winter nights. So although the trains have changed that magical atmosphere still remains, enhanced by the splendid reflective capabilities of heavy rain on the platform ...

A4 60019 'Bittern' - Cathedrals Express to Cardiff 05/12/2009

This is a record of Bittern's first ever visit to the Principality, and with very heavy rain forecast for the afternoon, I decided to get the first shot of the train at Severn Tunnel Jnc, as the train had been diverted via Gloucester and Chepstow due to major engineering work at Severn Tunnel Jnc. The hairs on the back of my neck were on end as the train sped towards me, and gave several blasts on the whistle. The rain then came in and you next see the loco at Cardiff Central returning from ...

66201 on the MOD Tank Empties 27/11/2009

On a beautiful sunny morning i went to Pembrey & Burry Port Railway Station to film a westbound train of MOD empty wagons heading for West Wales to pick up some military vehicles. Whilst waiting for it I also filmed some 175's and a 153 on passenger workings to and from West Wales. A few hours later and we were back to torrential rain and high winds...so enjoy the moment....Bob

Rare sighting of 66168 at Barry Docks 26/11/2009

Rare sighting of 66168 at Barry Docks 26/11/2009

On another blustery day, I was passing Barry Docks, and saw a rare sight of 66168 preparing to leave with a container train to Newport. Unfortunately I wasn't able to catch the departure, but it was good to catch the spectacle...My apologies for the uneven panning, but there was a storm brewing behind me and it was difficult fighting against the strong winds....Bob
