Robert Reid (of Lonely Planet & reidontravel.com) will host a party at noon December 31, meeting at 11am at the middle of the south-side pedestrian walkway, walking to Brooklyn, and having cake with plastic forks in the park below it at Dumbo by 11:45am.

For one, he retraces the steps of his favorite dead governor (Arizona's seven-time elected George Hunt, a Missourian who knitted and drove cars into ditches and now rests in a tiny pyramid). And also to make a friend at Phoenix's Sky Harbor airport. A recent study says it's the most difficult for meeting people -- no delays, no bad weather, bad amenities -- but the SSTS will try to debunk the stat.

Recently they upgraded a shop to replace wood door frames with aluminum times.
