Ikey tried the agility at the Appleton Pet Expo this last weekend. The first day was a novice course, the next day they did a colors course and a jackpot course. I didn't try for the bonus on the first jackpot we ran because the send was farther than he would do but the second time they changed it a little and he got it! It was really fun and it was really great that it was open to all of the dogs at the fair!

As a part of the Alaskan Malamute Club of Wisconsin's goal to educate the public, we do an annual sled +/- weight pull demonstration. It's a fun time for club members because we can bring our dogs out in a weight pull setting and basically run a public training session. It also gives us a chance to try new things, like driving our dogs. Driving is where the handler stands back by the cart and gives commands, much like sledding. A lot of dogs won't weight pull that way--even if they are sled ...

A bunch of us got together after Best of Breed and before the awards banquet to spend some time doing what our dogs enjoy. It was really fun! And a safety note: it really is NOT safe to run your dogs in front of a bike unless their ON-BY command is really solid!

Travis earned his Novice Agility and Novice Jumpers titles at the Fond Du Lac All-Breed Agility trial. That day he had two perfect scores and two first placements. Layla had a decent run as well, she'd had a bad experience on the a-frame a week before--didn't think it would affect her for the trial but it did. Love her weaving!

Ikey's first real agility course
Ikey running the course at the Waukesha County Pet Expo agility fun match. We had the opportunity to try a real course for a small donation. Our second run was vastly improved but sadly I have no video. This is his third time on any course, I didn't have a clue where I was going, and I was running in flip flops. It's possible we embarrassed the breed but who cares, we had fun!
