On 12-29-09 a car occupied by two women veered off of Ripley plowing through multiple trees, rolling down an embankment just shy of a frozen river, and burst into flames. Both women were out of the car by the time FD members arrived on scene. Fire crews from Station 1 went down the snow covered drop-off and extinguished the fire without incident. Both women were treated by Lake Station ems. Both victims have a lot to be thankful for just before New Years, great job by LSFD and LSPD...

Just after 1:30 am GFD was dispatched to a reported rollover wit entrapment and a vehicle fire, on arrival Engine 5 advised there was no fire and the victim was not pinned. The vehicle veered off the road striking a concrete bench, a brick flower bed, and coming to rest on it's side against the Gary Public Library at 40th and Broadway. The victim was transported to Methodist North Lake in serious condition.

In the early morning hours of 12-21 a call was received for a house fire across from Luke Oil, LSFD was dispatched to the area of Ripley and Central, no fire was found and it ended-up being about 4 miles away on the far west side of Lake Station. While checking out a fire in Lake Station that I had missed a dark header was visible just south of Ridge Rd and I-65 then Gary toned out for a reported still alarm at 1331 East 50th Place. Exactly 2 hours after crews were dispatched to a working house fire in Black Oaks a house fire was reported in Glen Park in the 5100 block of Washington. On arrival Engine 5 reported heavy smoke showing from a 1.5 story frame dwelling at 5186 Washington. At 10:35pm crews were dispatched to a reported still alarm in the 2300 block of Wheeler, on arrival Engine 13 advised of a working house fire. Multiple lines were stretched and an interior search was initiated and came up negative. Crews worked on the scene for about an hour. Crews were dispatched just 2 days after multiple trailers were set ablaze in a small trailer park off of 29th and Burr. Crews arrived to find a fully involved residential trailer. Crews made an aggressive attack from two sides bring the fire under control with no injuries. Arson investigators were on scene working.

GFD was toned out for a reported still alarm at 2740 Calhoun, on arrival Truck 13 advised of a working fire. Crews pulled lines from Truck 13, and Engine 9 to knock the fire down. While crews were overhauling and I was at home uploading this they found a second trailer burning on the property. Nobody was injured at either scene, police and fire investigators were on scene working.

The date of the fire was 11-22-09, not the 21st. Sorry. GFD was toned out for a reported still alarm at 17th and Massachusetts, while Squad 2 was en route they reported a working fire. On arrival crews reported a working fire in a 25x25 frame corner store, a quick knock was made by Engine 4's crew.Nobody was injured at the scene.
