Confederate Cannon fire

Confederate Cannon fire

a Five cannon barrage from a regiment of Johnny Rebs attempt to turn back a Yankee charge to no avail. In 2008, a Civil War re-enactment group converged at the Newtown Battlefield Site near Elmira NY and put on a great show. Crank up the volume, the cannon fire is pretty cool! No matter that this was a Revolutionary War battlefield, it was still quite interesting to see the effort so many volunteers (soldiers, as well as their wives and chidlren) did to be as authentic as possible....

Another kitten born

Another kitten born

This kitten couldn't get out of the womb fast enough, you can hear it hit the basket when it popped out! Glad we were able to find good homes for them and get the mother cat spayed. Fascinating this mother cat, which was pretty much a stray that came to our screen window the morning she had the kittens, allowed us to observe her. We'd never been able to pet her before this day. She since become a pretty good house cat, (and we had her spayed soon after the kittens were weaned) as far as cats ...

Kitten being born

Kitten being born

I've never been much of a cat lover but we did take in a stray female cat that was quite pregnant at the time. She had all her kittens in this basket while we watched. She's the only cat I ever saw that wanted company while having her kittens. Amazing too is she would never come close to us until the day she gave birth. We've since had her spayed and she's become a pretty good cat (as far as cats go!)

Street Running: Alcos vs Geeps part 2

Check it out, a pedestrian races the Norfolk Southern train for several blocks, then crosses in front of it as the pair of GP 38-2s street run Chemung Street in Painted Post, NY on a cold October day, pulling a string of tank cars dropped off by the Livonia, Avon & Lakeville Alcos. Not sure what was worth risking life and limb for on the other side but, no one truly knows why the chicken crossed the road either..... Alco Century 424s from the Livonia, Avon & Lakeville then start their return ...

Street Running: Geeps vs Alcos part 1

On a cold day in October,I was able to capture the Norfolk Southern/ Livonia Avon & Lakeville street running exchange in Painted Post, NY with a better camera as well as two GP 38-2s of the Norfolk Southern, which have a slightly different horn than the GP 40s I more often see here. The two Alco Centurys of the L, A, &L certainly make their presence known as they make their way down Chemung Street. They sound pretty impressive, though my eardrums prefer the more mellow tones of the Geeps....
