Oddly enough, Rota's original GODFATHER score had been disqualified in 1972 because portions of the score were used in the 1958 Italian film FORTUNELLA. Two years later, Rota wins for reusing those same themes in the GODFATHER sequel. Such are the odd inconsistencies of Academy rules. Go figure.
