The One Man Brass Band

The One Man Brass Band

A bit of Christmas cheer in a brass band style. It sounds like a bigger band but its just me playing two tracks on cornet and two tracks on french horn. I had to use the horn in the low register as I don't have a tuba or a euphonium. My ambition is to record a full 25 piece brass band score including percussion!

This tune is from William Thomson's Orpheus Caledonius published in 1725. You will find this online at www.scotmus.com I don't know if this song has anything to do with the town of Livingston, but presumably it does.

Over There sung by Enrico Caruso - inspiration for the Go Compare TV advert

When I first saw the Go Compare TV ad I knew exactly where the tune had come from. Enrico Caruso was the first great recording star as his career peaked at the same time as gramophone records became popular. This is one of his later songs from 1917 and its partly sung in English, presumably for the American market as the song is about American soldiers going to the war in Europe. I have enhanced the audio a bit. Lyrics: Johnny, get your gun, get your gun, get your gun Take it on the run, on ...
