Sending CW (Morse code) with my nato hand key.Morse is no longer used commercially and it is down to radio amateurs to keep it alive.Who knows,one day it may be needed again.Our modern communications rely on high technology and support and can be vulnerable to unforseen threats.But the simple CW transceiver and a hand key are the most basic means by which we can send a message vast distances and require minimal maintenance.

Review of Elecraft K1 Nr 1540.The antenna was a Butternut HF9V and all qso's were on 30 meters.I find this a super little rig and have gained many hours of pleasure from firstly building it.(It took about 1 week to build)and then using it.I have since built it's big brother the K2 but continue to use the K1 from time to time.Excellent rig.Welldone Elecraft.

After a wrestling match with those big springs and a bit of tinkering the old Time recorder is running like a charm.I will regulate it over the next few days and fully expect it's dead beat escapement to be accurate to within 30 seconds a month.Dads old clock lives on.It's a shame he's not here to see it.

This simple things in life are often the best.I like nothing more than coming home in the evening and lighting the wood stove.I guess it's the primitive man in me,but it really makes the home cosy.We have two wood stoves and they save us a lot of money.They are hardwork also.All the cutting and chopping and then the dust they create can be a problem.So they're not for everyone.

A short video about my Longcase Grandfather clock built by Abraham Shaw in Billingboro Lincolnshire circa 1800.Abraham was the second in a line of 4 generations of clock builders.He died in 1833 at the age of 72 and is buried in the local church yard.
