Wikipedia MIDI Jam

Wikipedia MIDI Jam

This video has quite a backstory, so allow me to explain its origins. If you go to the Wikipedia article on MIDI - en.wikipedia.org - and scroll down to the section titled "Sample Standard MIDI files" - en.wikipedia.org - you will find exactly what the title says ( tvtropes.org ) - Sample standard MIDI files. These four files consist of two drum samples (bass/kick drum and a snare drum) and two bass guitar samples. The melody in the bass guitar samples is what I based this project off of. As ...

Seven Song Christmas Medley

Seven Song Christmas Medley

This was my seventh, and final, project in my Electronic Music and MIDI class. Due to the time of year, I chose to do a medley of Christmas songs. The original requirements stated that the project could not be longer than five minutes. I created a "short version" which I turned in. I added some songs for the version I would take home, bringing the whole thing to eight minutes. Here are the seven songs that I covered: 1. What Child Is This? - written by William Chatterton Dix in 1865 ...

Super Mario in Ashland Park

Super Mario in Ashland Park

As part of my sixth project, this musical medley consists of three songs. The object of the project was to use "the halion Sampler, the [Korg] Triton, and at least one vsti synthesizer." The halion Sampler is not the same as the halionone. In this medley, I start with the "Delfino Plaza" theme from Super Mario Sunshine. (Music by Kōji Kondō and Shinobu Tanaka.) I referenced the version of this music that plays in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, where the Yoshi bongos alternate on each repeat. I ...

Casey Junior remix

Casey Junior remix

This is a version of Casey Junior, a song from Walt Disney's 1941 film "Dumbo". The original song was written by Frank Churchill, with lyrics by Ned Washington. The object of this assignment was to demonstrate knowledge of what is known as "step recording", where someone draws in each note or sets things up so that every time a key is pressed on the (piano) keyboard, the note entered into the computer is always the same length (and sometimes velocity/volume). We could choose to either step ...

Witch Doctor remixed ("instrumental")

Witch Doctor remixed (

This is a version of the "The Delay Lama Sings 'Witch Doctor'" video. The only difference here is that there aren't any visuals and I removed the melody lines. What I removed: -Above The Rim (halionone) -Delay Lama "Tinley" What remains: -Piano -Bass -Brass/Horns -Drums In other words, "instrumental" is a bit of a misnomer, since my original remix already was without lyrics. (Unless you consider the Delay Lama's Oohs, Ees and Aahs to be words...) The three pictures I threw in for good ...

Template 5 Remixed in Cubase

Template 5 Remixed in Cubase

So, out of those nine remix templates I showed you yesterday, I chose to remix template 5 for my third project. The steps I take are: 0:01 - Thin In, where each element comes in one at a time. 0:17 - Thin Out, where each element exits one at a time. (Most students put this at the end of their projects.) 0:33 - Transpose. In this caes, I transposed down one or two half steps. 0:48 - Quantize, which is lining up all the notes to (in this case) the nearest eighth note triplet. 1:05 - Drum remap ...

Nine Musical Templates

Nine Musical Templates

In my "Intro to Electronic Music and MIDI" class that I took, our third assignment was a remix project. We had the choice between nine pre-created (and short) songs made in Cubase, and certain things like pitch/tempo changes, remaps, and volume or stereo pan automation had to be changed in each repeat. These nine songs are presented to you here, in their original form. Sorry! I didn't record video for this - it's nothing spectacular. These songs, as far as I was able to probe, were created ...

Exploring the Reef with Jean-Michel Cousteau

This short film was included on the second disc of the 2-disc Collector's Edition of the "Finding Nemo" DVD. Directed by Roger Gould, it was fully produced (or at least published) by Pixar Animation Studios. It includes the voicework of Albert Brooks, Ellen degeneres, and Alexander Gould. Summary: Jean-Michel Cousteau presents us with one of his documentary films, and this one is about the coral reefs and how they live. What they eat, how human life affects them, and how they reproduce is ...

Mozart Piano Sonata 16 in Cubase 5

Mozart Piano Sonata 16 in Cubase 5

This was my first project that I completed in my DVC class. The objective was to create a piece that was either our own original work or a cover of something else. I chose to record my version of Piano Sonata No. 16 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the first movement, "Allegro". I recorded (played) the left and right hands separately, and then I tweaked note values and quantized everything so it sounded acceptable. While I do still have the instructions for projects 2-7, I have misplaced the ...
