When Robert Met Olive
The first in a series of 3 documentaries featuring aspects of my grandfather's life. Each film stands alone but make more sense watched altogether and in sequence. I originally conceived the films as a single longer film but both the content, and the capacity of my poor overworked PC, made it sensible to go for this approach. Tarkovsky's Crying in the Wilderness
I've been wanting to film this short script (eventually (re)worked into Nostalghia) ever since I came across it in Tarkovsky's diaries (Time Within Time, translated by Kitty Hunter-Blair, Faber and Faber) but hadn't been able to find either the right location or a workable method for the finale (Tarkovsky offers one in the diaries but it far exceeds the capabilities of my nobudget methodology). St Peter, Satterleigh
This is a fair copy of the first segment of what I hope will turn into a much longer sequence of visits to some of the 'redundant' churches in the South West. The idea and some of the style was suggested to me by Antonioni's great late short The Gaze of Michelangelo but as the church itself reminded me a little of the one Bergman uses in Winter Light and the poor light conditions left my raw footage quite grainy, I've opted to go for a high contrast black and white presentation.
