Anchorage Assemblyman Bill Starr launched into a diatribe about proposed amendments in a six year budget plan for the city which would slash the arts department by 86.7% and majorly cut both the library and public transportation, even though there is $10million of room before hitting the ceiling of the annual salary cap. He calls amendments from his fellow assemblywoman, Dr. Sheila Selkregg, a manifesto, and calls her a communist.

Hilton Workers March in front of the Hilton 9/30/09
ADN: Anchorage hotel workers held a rally Wednesday where union members and their supporters marched from the Sheraton Hotel to the Hilton Hotel. The UNITE HERE Local 878 has been in a labor dispute with the hotels over wages and benefits. The local has been in bargaining talks with the Hilton for more than a year and with the Sheraton since June.
