Super Castlevania 4 play through part 8

Super Castlevania 4 play through part 8

Level 8 is in this part. The caves/catacombs/whatever level is the one to cause me the most pain. This level is full of instant death traps, with spikes swinging and falling everywhere. Also, unlike level 3, the dripping stuff is acid in this level and can hurt you. Those floating eyeballs also often appear at awkward places to kill. There's another vertical section in this level, only a few spikes mixed in makes it harder to rush through this one than in the previous level. And right after ...

Super Castlevania 4 play through part 7

Level 7 is in this part. A lot of enemies in this level work to make things slow, especially all the axe armors. I try and use boomerangs to speed things up, but there's still a bunch of pauses while I whip stuff. about 46 seconds in, I tried turning and throwing a boomerang while falling, and messed it up twice. Then there's a long vertical room, which is made many times easier if you know that huge drop path. I just fly right through there. The book riding is slow, I probably should've ...

Super Castlevania 4 play through part 6

Level 6 is in this part. This first room didn't go so well. I missed the first enemy, I jumped through some stairs, I got hit by an axe, and my boomerang passed through a zombie without killing it. The chandelier room is kind of lame, I hate waiting for them to swing. 6-2 has a hidden bonus room with cool music. There's a coffin a little farther ahead that chases me, but it almost always falls in that gap. It caught me off guard by hitting me. In the area where the hands grab you, you can ...

Super Castlevania 4 play through part 5

Level 5 is in this part. This level is probably the most forgettable, because it has no boss and is very short. The first area has some annoying flying enemies, but nothing terrible to deal with. Also, that jump I make early on over fireballs isn't as hard as it appears. The second area can get annoying if you don't know how to deal with whip enemies or you don't see the bats. And then the end is just a long walk to the entrance of the actual castle. I think this level was more for ...

Super Castlevania 4 play through part 4

Level 4 is in this part. Level 4 is the level with all the weird gimmicks to show off the tricks the SNES could do. But first, a fairly normal section is at the start. This part went really well. I got some nice timed whips, and that one boomerang throw that takes out 5 or 6 enemies just feels great to pull off. The giant head boss, Puwexil, is one I've never had a strategy for. I just whip and throw stuff a lot. He goes down pretty fast. The second segment is a rotating room. It's kind of ...

Super Castlevania 4 play through part 3

Level 3 is in this part. For years, I thought those water drops would hurt me. The caves go so much smoother now that I know they're just for show. I'm also really proud of that skull tower I killed in the upper corner, even though I didn't need to do it. I mess up a bit against the rock men. The second segment is pretty streamlined in design. There's a 20 second period in this area where I just say "screw it" and move nonstop without interruption. The third segment has given me tons of ...

Super Castlevania 4 play through part 2

Level 2 is in this part. This level is weird in that the boss comes in the middle of the level, not the end. It's another easier level, though I do make a couple mistakes. I miss killing a frog and it jumps on me, I get grabbed by a hand, but nothing too bad. There are some good things in here too, some smooth jumping that I'm proud of. The highlight of this segment is near the end, when I jump over the skull heads. I didn't expect to actually pull that off.

Super Castlevania 4 play through part 1

The intro and level 1 are in this part. The more I play this game, the more it feels like my favorite game in the Castlevania series. It has outstanding music and atmosphere, and the 8-way whipping really opens up the gameplay possibilities. I've played through this first level way too many times, especially while trying to get a good recording for this. After a while, it became really streamlined like this. I try and jump whip as much as possible to keep moving, and try and attack enemies ...

Mega Man 4 play through/speed run part 6

Wily stages 3 and 4 are in this part, along with the ending. This is me attempting to speed run through Mega Man 4. I'm certainly not the best, and I make a good number of mistakes, but I still feel this is pretty good. I do a decent amount of sliding over short distances, though I don't always chance it over pits/spikes. This picks up midway through the boss rush. Drill Man is fairly cooperative here, staying above ground a lot. The first Wily form goes well, and I miss a few drills on the ...

Wily stages 1, 2, and 3 are in this part. This is me attempting to speed run through Mega Man 4. I'm certainly not the best, and I make a good number of mistakes, but I still feel this is pretty good. I do a decent amount of sliding over short distances, though I don't always chance it over pits/spikes. Wily 1 is the met level. The second screen shows how much one missed shot can mess me up. If I kill that second met without taking a hit, I can time the next two really well. I have a few too ...
