Nick Griffin To Stand At General Election

Speaking to party members in Wigan, Mr Griffin said he would stand in the Barking constituency in East London. That seat is currently held by Culture Minister Margaret Hodge, with a 9000 majority. The BNP narrowly came third in the constituency in 2005.

Glasgow North East By Election.

Labour has held Glasgow North-East in the by-election caused by the resignation of former Speaker Michael Martin. Despite its recent problems the party's candidate Willie Bain got three times as many votes as his closest rival.
