Two American Studs rock Enduro Africa: The beginning

Two American Studs rock Enduro Africa: The beginning

Tony and I go out partying the night before. We end up waking up at 3 pm. Our flight from London departs at 7 pm. We pack our stuff in a hurry, and head off to the airport. Two lessons learned from that day is to have a watch on you (I was using my blackberry as my watch which I was charging at the time), and do NOT use Tony as an alarm clock. We got to London Heathrow with 2 hrs to spare. We flew off to Johannesburg, and had layover there for a bit. We got into Durban, and had a quick run ...

Mgcawezulu School & Touch Africa

Day 6: Renovation of Mgcawezulu School. We ride 6k in casual clothes to a village and park up the bikes to be greeted by the children of the school. As we enter the school grounds we are met by the teachers, pupils and village elders singing in the most perfect harmony to welcome us. We unload all the materials for the job from our van and set to work in groups on various projects. There is an L shaped building with six rooms to restore. The inside and outside needs to be primed and re ...

Day 5 Hole in the Wall to Kob Inn

Day 5 Hole in the Wall to Kob Inn

Day 5: Hole in the Wall Lodge (in Coffee Bay) to Kob Inn. Mike from Red Cherry Adventures takes thru the route the night before the ride. Total distance covered was 145 km. In the morning, all the teams drive down the beautiful South African coastline. After that, we hit a really technical part of the route after about 15k riding. We crossed ravines, through woodlands up steep bumpy (bumpies) grass hills (like the south downs) with boulders and mounds of grass to avoid and also crossed ...

Day 4 Port St Johns to Coffee Bay

Day 4 continued....we depart Eluxolweni Child Care Center and head off to Hole in the Wall in Coffee Bay. On our way to Coffee Bay, we go by some of the most beautiful coastal scenery that South Africa has to offer. Amazing that this place is still true to its roots. Vast majority of people do subsistence farming out in the Wild Coast of South Africa. We also stop by a local store and buy some candy for the children. Marianne is so graciously kind to hand out the candy to the kids along with ...

Touch Africa & Eluxolweni Childcare Center

Touch Africa & Eluxolweni Childcare Center

We are in Port St. Johns, and the Enduro Africa riders arrive at Eluxolweni Childcare Center. Eluxolweni Childcare Center is paired up with Touch Africa (one of the charities Enduro Africa riders raised money for) in helping disadvantaged homeless children. The money we raised went into buying mattresses for homeless kids to sleep on. One mattress costs 100 South African Rand (equivalent to $13). The basic concept of Touch Africa is basically to "touch" people's lives and make small positive ...

Day 3: Mbotyi River Lodge to Cremone

After a 200 km ride, I was a bit sore. My left knee was swollen and I had a couple of bumps and bruises. All in all, my morale was high and ready to go for round 2. Here I am giving an overview of what happened the day before, and giving y'all a good look at the beautiful Mbotyi River Lodge.

South Africa National Anthem

South Africa National Anthem

Since 1997, The South African national anthem has been a hybrid song combining new English lyrics with extracts of the hymn "Nkosi Sikelel' iafrika" and the former anthem "Die Stem van Suid-Afrika/The Voice of South Africa". The lyrics employ the five most populous of South Africa's eleven official languages - Xhosa (first stanza, first two lines), Zulu (first stanza, last two lines), Sesotho (second stanza), English (bridge), Afrikaans (third stanza) and English (final stanza)....
