KYW - 2005 SEPTA Strike - 11pm

KYW - 2005 SEPTA Strike - 11pm

The more things change, the more they stay the same - with that in mind here's KYW coverage of the last SEPTA strike from 2005. You'll notice that there was considerably more warning for this one. This is the open to kyw's Sunday 11pm news, anchored by Larry Mendte (they'd always grab him and/or Alycia if big news was happening on a weekend). They installed a new GM so things were in a bit of a transitional phase pres-wise. The KYW pyburns are in use, as is News in Focus (they didn't replace ...

Here, now, the news - the final part of a full 6pm WABC Eyewitness News broadcast from 1980 featuring the legendary anchor team of Roger Grimsby and Bill Beutel. It might look plain, but its beauty is apparent once you look deeper. This segment is mostly lighter stories and weather. Weather is the last and least important item in the newscast. I repeat, weather is the last and least important part. It's also split up by a commercial break. Very simple presentation here - no doppler radar....

Here, now, the news - part six of a full 6pm WABC Eyewitness News broadcast from 1980 featuring the legendary anchor team of Roger Grimsby and Bill Beutel. It might look plain, but its beauty is apparent once you look deeper. And now, here's sports. Remember sports? Granted, it's now the most irrelevant part of the newscast thanks to sportscenter and 24 hour regional networks, but it barely gets 2 minutes these days. Here it gets five and interesting stories to boot - one of them is about ...

Here, now, the news - part five of a full 6pm WABC Eyewitness News broadcast from 1980 featuring the legendary anchor team of Roger Grimsby and Bill Beutel. It might look plain, but its beauty is apparent once you look deeper. This segment consists of exactly two reports: one on OSHA inspections and the other on rising obesity statistics. Guess which one is relegated to a Roger Grimsby one liner and which one lasts five minutes.

Here, now, the news - part four of a full 6pm WABC Eyewitness News broadcast from 1980 featuring the legendary anchor team of Roger Grimsby and Bill Beutel. It might look plain, but its beauty is apparent once you look deeper. Things get a little lighter as we approach the halfway mark. There's another live shot with John Johnson - and *gasp* he makes use of being live as he interviews striking Daily News workers behind him. Then it's Bob Lape with an offbeat arts-related story, and Roger ...

Here, now, the news - part three of a full 6pm WABC Eyewitness News broadcast from 1980 featuring the legendary anchor team of Roger Grimsby and Bill Beutel. It might look plain, but its beauty is apparent once you look deeper. You might have realized that we're still in the news part, even though we'd be well into weather by now. Come to think of it, the weatherguy hasn't shown up once - we'd have seen him three times already. Believe it or not, the 6pm news actually lasted for one solid ...

Here, now, the news - part one of a full 6pm WABC Eyewitness News broadcast from 1980 featuring the legendary anchor team of Roger Grimsby and Bill Beutel. It might look plain, but its beauty is apparent once you look deeper. We're in the second block of news now. You might wonder why some of the stories look funny - WABC was using a mixture of tape and film for its reports. Live shots were a rarity. Over the shoulder graphics were handmade. Animated lower thirds? Hell no - yellow text FTW ...

Here, now, the news - part one of a full 6pm WABC Eyewitness News broadcast from 1980 featuring the legendary anchor team of Roger Grimsby and Bill Beutel. It might look plain, but its beauty is apparent once you look deeper. The first time I saw classic WABC, I would classify as a religious experience. More information is given in this one hour of news than in the 8 hours most stations do per day. And I don't mean health or beauty tips or constant weather hits. Useful, interesting ...

kyw's current open with revised Paul Turner voiceover. This is a test file, I know the audio is out of sync, but the video should be showing up as HD. I've switched my operating system. I was running Windows XP 32-bit; I've moved to Windows 7 64-bit. This has enabled me to move from my slow and buggy capture software to Windows Media Center. In other words, I can now capture and edit in full HD. I'm still getting used to this new process though.

WGBS Philly 57 - 1993 - Promos

Yes, more from my favorite station. This is from the fall of 1993. They stopped using impressive CGI logos and effects this year, and as a kid I wasn't that happy. Time has made me realize that although the station looks a little cheaper, the presentation department really went all-out; this is pretty much a full scale rebrand. I get the feeling they realized Philly 57 wasn't going to remain as it was for long (Fox was about to buy the station; it ended up going to Paramount), so they put ...
