When the list of the Top 10 Bands at the 2009 Arizona State Marching Band Competition was announced, the list did NOT include the Deer Valley HS Marching Band. The members of this band, perennially one of the best in the state, left the competition dejected. Nearly a week later, Asst Band Director Gordon Williford announced the final results from the State Competition. The final results reflected a somewhat different outcome!

Here's the Deer Valley HS Marching Band at the 2009 Arizona State Marching Competition held in Chandler, Arizona on Nov. 7, 2009. The band performed "Spain" by Chick Corea, "Novus" by Carlos Santana, and "La Suerte de los Tontos" as performed by the Stan Kenton Orchestra.

Here's an extraordinary performance by the Deer Valley HS Marching Band at the "Music Along the Estrellas" marching band competition held in Avondale, Arizona, on October 31, 2009. The band performed "Spain" by Chick Corea, "Novus" by Carlos Santana and "La Suerte de los Tontos" as performed by the Stan Kenton orchestra. The band received the judges' highest rating of "Superior" for this remarkable performance.
