It has come out that at least one US intelligence agency and the Army knew that Fort Hood shooting suspect Nidal Malik Hasan had contacted a top Al Qaeda recruiter in Yemen. Ross says that Hasan asked the Al Qaeda associate, radical imam Anwar Al Awlaki, what he could do to "further jihad."

Lieberman says that there are concerns that the shooting rampage suspect Major Nidal Malik Hasan had become an Islamist extremist, and that Hasan's actions may be properly classified as the worst terrorist attack on American soil since September 11, 2001.
